Welterbe & Klimakrise

Die UNESCO-Welterbe Kulturlandschaft Wachau ist in vielfältiger Weise von den Auswirkungen der Klimakrise betroffen. Insbesondere die für den außergewöhnlichen universellen Wert der Stätte prägenden Elemente der Natur- und Kulturlandschaft – darunter Naturschutzflächen ebenso wie Weinbau- und Siedlungsbereiche – unterliegen klimabedingten Veränderungen. Um das Wissen über diese Auswirkungen zu vertiefen und Handlungsmöglichkeiten aufzuzeigen, werden im Rahmen dieser Maßnahme mehrere aufeinander abgestimmte Aktivitäten umgesetzt.

Weltkulturerbe Wachau erleben

Im Anschluss an das Bewusstseinsbildungsprojekt zum 20-Jahr-Jubiläum des UNESCO-Weltkulturerbestatus der Wachau ist ein weiteres Projekt ins Leben gerufen worden, um auch den SchülerInnen der UNESCO-Schulen die Möglichkeit zu geben, ihre Region und speziell die Besonderheiten des UNESCO-Welterbes Wachau hautnah zu erleben.

The European Diploma for Protected Areas of the Council of Europe

The European Diploma for Protected Areas is doubtless one of the most valuable awards that can be bestowed upon a region. Awards can be given to sufficiently protected natural and cultural landscapes – in the case of the Wachau, the designation of the valley as a landscape conservation area is the gentlest possible but nevertheless sufficient level of protection – above all due to their special quality in scientific, cultural, aesthetic and/or recreational terms.

Kirchen am Fluss (Churches on the river)

Unique sacred buildings on both banks of the Danube decorate a landscape that has been marked by Christian culture for many centuries. The goal of the project was to raise awareness amongst the local population and visitors of the monasteries, churches and chapels and to make the buildings something to experience. To this end, a whole series of projects was implemented.
